Location: Ouderkerk aan de Amstel
Client: Vitra Nederland
Description: Transformation of stock basement into bullpen office and canteen-showroom
The former basement of Vitra’s Dutch showroom in Ouderkerk aan de Amstel was a typical basement in its appearance. The basement, mostly used as stock, felt quite dark and unfinished, however it accommodated the staff canteen and a meeting room as well.
In order to make the space lighter and more attractive we transformed the basement into a light office area (bullpen) and comfortable canteen/showroom in cooperation with the client, general contractor Bijkerk van de Giessen and interior contractor Finitouch.
To create a light pleasant space, which could showcase Vitra’s furniture at the same time, we created two new windows and divided the space in different usage areas by means of fixed interior blocks, glas and dedicated surfaces in the floor and ceiling.
The designed blocks are freestanding monoliths, both in colour and in form, to be shown to advantage of the furniture. They accommodate required functions such as toilets, storage and a kitchen, but also fixed seatings and niches to intensify the feeling of a sitting-room.
