Location: Nieuwegracht 8, Utrecht
Description: Interior refurbishment
Period: Mar 1999 – Jan 2004
The building is situated at the monumental and lively canal-side. The
quietness of the inner-area is surprising. The building is split in two
apartments. Our clients reside in the lower.
The central zone in the house is completely adjusted; the stairs and the
in-between level are partly removed. There is a hallway of which the
construction consists of an assembly of strips and angles.
The surfaces in between the ceiling beams are covered with soundproof
material. Here all vertical and horizontal relations coincide.
The choice of materials like American pinewood, steel in iron sparkling
paint and etched glass provide for a still image. Lighting and furniture
apply accents at crucial points.
